Lupercalia

Lupercalia
February 15 Th. is the celebration known as Lupercalia. It celebrates the love for partners (like husband and wife), parents, and friends! It is a Roman holiday for fertility and love. Many other cultures celebrate this holiday as Valentines
Day ( a day early). We see the cupid, which is the son of the goddess Venus. Cupid is said to have arrows of love, once you are hit by these arrows you are to fall in love. The heart shape is a Norse love rune! How pagan!!
But for Lupercalia why not make some wonderful things for the special people you love.

Ideas for Mom: (hey you always can do this for Mother's Day also)
(ideas for older sisters too.)

Scented cream or lotion

Unscented cream, lotion or baby oil
6-10 Drops of her favorite Essential Oil

Just add Mom or sister's essential oil to the cream, lotion or baby oil. Can add to a pretty bottle if wanted. Or leave in bottle it came in. Ad some pretty ribbon and or ribbon flowers to make the bottle special.

1/3 cup Epsom salts
1/3 cup sea salt
1/3 baking soda
6 to 10 drops of her favorite Essential Oil

Dad's Ideas:

Aftershave.

First get mom to help cause this craft uses alcohol and we don't want you to get in trouble......

½ cups of vodka (alcohol)
2 teaspoons of rum (more alcohol)
2 bay leaves
couple of whole allspice
1 cinnamon stick
zest of a orange (that's the orange part no white stuff)

To zest a orange you can use a zester or a sharp knife (Mom helps again..) or use a peeler and lightly scrape with the peeler zest off the orange. Mix together in a bottle or jar. Jars are easier cause they have bring opening for the solid stuff to be added. Let sit for 2 to 3 weeks. Strain with cheese cloth or a coffee filter. Throw away the solid stuff and pour liquid in a bottle.

crafts at pagan pride day....

As promised to many parents ...the awaited recipes from the crafts at
pagan pride day....

The pinch bowls:

Coffee dough
1 cup flour
1 cup dried used coffee grounds
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup cold coffee

Mix all together. knead on floured surface until smooth. The kneading releases gluten; that is a protein in flour. That a fancy way of saying "glue" of the dough so go ahead and knead away... Dry on waxed paper.
Let dry for a full 24 hours before turning over.. Keep turning until dry

(this is from _kids Crazy Concoctions_ by Jill Frankel Hauser)

White flour dough
(Hey you kids help name it...)
1 cup flour
1/2 cup sand
1/2 salt
2/3 water

Mix all together. Knead on floured surface. I came up with this dough when wanting to find a dough that didn't melt with the sticky days we had in the summer. Just wanted something like the coffee dough but with a lighter color. Dry on waxed paper. Let dry for a full 24 hours before turning over.. Keep turning until dry (about 5 days)

My favorite dough
Cinnamon dough
1 1/2 cups ground Cinnamon
1 cup Applesauce
1/3 cup white School glue (like Elmer's)

Mix together. knead on cinnamon cover surface. Let sit 30 minutes works the best at room temperature. cut out shapes with a cookie cutter or shape it. Dry on waxed paper. Let dry for a full 24 hours before turning over.. Keep turning until dry

Wish boxes
Coffee cans (like the international coffees cans)

Decorate your box any way you want. Or you could get a metal box from the dollar stores or Big lots already decorated with yule type pictures. Add candles and a great gift for that witch on your yule list...
Hey some of the little extra can be charms, a pinch bowl you made... bath salts, perfume, incense or whatever. You can have all the candles the same color or all different colors. You can make special candle boxes for special people.

Relax candle box

Good for that person on your list that is working overtime for yule or works at a store where it gets very busy.

Feel better candle box

Philosophy of Charles Schultz

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schultz, the creator of the "Peanuts" comic strip.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America Contest.

4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.

6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with

Easier?

The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care.

"Don't worry about the world coming to an end today.
It's already tomorrow in Australia "
(Charles Schultz)
